About IIT Kharagpur
The motto of IIT Kharagpur is "योगः कर्मसु कौशलम्". This literally translates to "Excellence in action is Yoga", essentially implying that doing your work well is (true) yoga. This can be traced to Sri Krishna's discourse with Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita. The quote, in the larger context of the Gita, urges man to acquire equanimity because a mind of equanimity allows a man to shed distracting thoughts of the effects of his deeds and concentrate on the task before him. Equanimity is the source of perfection in Karmic endeavours that leads to Salvation. The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur or IIT KGP) is a public institute of technology, research university, and autonomous institute established by the Government of India in Kharagpur, West Bengal. Founded in 1951, the institute is the first of the IITs to be established and is recognized as an Institute of National Importance. The institution was designated an Institute of Eminence by...

About the Department
The School of Water Resources at IIT Kharagpur is one of the pioneer centres for education and training in water quality and quantity management. It aims at providing integrated and interdisciplinary approaches involving hydrological, environmental, chemical, biophysical, economic, institutional, and policy-planning aspects, to solve the ever-growing water-related challenges in domestic, agriculture and industry sectors. It aims to develop knowledge, insight and engineering skills required to design, implement and evaluate water management policies and strategies. The school offers interdisciplinary full-time M.Tech. (in Water Engineering and Management) and Ph.D. (full-time/part-time) programmes to the students, professionals and researchers from multiple disciplines of Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotech Engineering and Mining Engineering.
Background and Rationale
Water defines civilizations, ecosystems, and economies; yet it is increasingly becoming the most fragile link in our development pathway. From intensifying floods and prolonged droughts to declining water quality, groundwater exhaustion, and ecosystem collapse, water and environmental challenges are no longer distant risks - they are lived realities. The coming decade demands a decisive shift: from fragmented solutions to integrated thinking, from reactive management to resilience-building, and from isolated research to actionable impact. WE Meet 2027 is conceived as a high-energy, idea-driven forum where science meets practice, technology meets policy, and innovation meets responsibility. More than a conventional academic conference, WE Meet 2027 aims to be a confluence of ideas, solutions, and partnerships, bringing together thinkers and doers committed to shaping the future with sustainable and climate-resilient water–environments at local, regional and global scales.
The Primary Objectives of WE MEET 2027 are
Conference Focus Areas and Core Themes
WE Meet 2027 is structured around six strategic and high-impact themes that address the most pressing scientific, technological, and policy challenges shaping the future of the water–environment sector. The conference highlights transformative advances in climate resilience, digital water systems, circular water economy, sustainable infrastructure, and next-generation treatment technologies. By integrating fundamental research, engineering innovation, data-driven intelligence, and sustainability-oriented solutions, these themes provide a comprehensive platform for fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and accelerating the transition towards resilient, intelligent, and resource-efficient water systems.
